About SFVHC
Our Mission Statement
Following the Japanese farming families through whom God planted this church, we seek to be a community of disciples who through depth of love, commitment to spiritual maturity, and active witness, touch the lives of all those around us, so that they may share with us in knowing the hope and grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Our Mission Plan
How will we become this community of disciples? By...
GLORIFYING
Our highest desire will be to glorify and worship God. The love of God - His love for us through Jesus Christ and, in return, our love for Him - will be the motivation and goal of all that we do. Full devotion to His word and fervent communion with Him in prayer will be the foundation of this life of glorifying and worship. (
Psalm 66:1-41
1 Shout with joy to God, all the earth!
2 Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious!
3 Say to God, "How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies cringe before you.
4 All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you, they sing praise to your name.";
Romans 12:1-2
1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.;
2 Tim 3:16-17
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.;
1 Thess 5:16-18
16 Be joyful always; 17 pray continually; 18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.)
GATHERING
By gathering together in small groups in the presence of the Holy Spirit, we experience true Christian community. We desire to be a witness to the world through authentic, caring relationships and mutual spiritual encouragement, which is the very heart of who we are as a church. ( Acts 2:42-47 42They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. 44All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. 46Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.; Heb 10:23-25 23Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. 25Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.)
GROWING
We will prayerfully create opportunities to help the unchurched to become believers in Jesus Christ, believers to become disciples, and disciples to become ministers and missionaries. (
Eph 4:11-16
11It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
14Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. 15Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. 16From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.;
2 Tim 2:2
2And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.)
GOING
For the sake of the Gospel we are compelled to move out beyond the four walls of our church. We will be innovative, sensitive, and bold in sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ in our neighborhoods, amongst our friends and families, and in the larger world we live in. ( Matt 28:18-20 18Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."; Rom 10:14-15 14How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!")

Our Pastors

Roland Hazama
Senior Pastor
My paternal Issei (first generation Japanese) grandparents were founding members of the SFVHC. With the exception of my college days and a few of the ensuing years, this has been my church my entire life. It has been exciting to see all that God has done in and through its ministry and it is a privilege to now serve as pastor. I am grateful for the loving support of my wife, Pattie and grown daughters, Kerri and Kristi. We are blessed to be a part of this church family.
